If your list tended to define social skills as problem behaviors or describe something that is not wanted, you are not alone. Many people do not realize that social skills actually are skills—they are what you want the student to do or what the student is expected to do. They are not what you want the student to stop doing. In an instructional model, the emphasis is always on developing a skill.
